Don’t Let Fear Steal Your Peace—Do This Right Now

Daily Effective Prayer Newsletter Issue 204.

TODAY'S TEACHING

Only you be strong, and very courageous, that you may do according to all the law which Moses, My servant commanded you. —Joshua 1:7

God doesn’t want you living under the shadow of fear.

He didn’t design you to be weighed down by torment or to let fear hold you back from walking boldly in His plans for your life.

When you choose to focus on Him instead of the fear that tries to creep in, you make space for His peace.

Fear wants to distract you, wants to make you doubt, but don’t let it.

The enemy loves nothing more than to get your eyes off God and onto your worries.

I remember a time when I was facing a big decision—a moment in my life when fear was knocking loud and clear.

I had a choice to make, and fear was telling me I wasn’t equipped, that I wasn’t good enough, that I’d fail

But deep down, I felt God calling me to move forward, even though every part of me wanted to turn back

I prayed, over and over, seeking His guidance.

And just like that, I heard Him speak to my heart, “Do it afraid.”

We all experience fear at times, but here’s the truth: you can still choose to trust God.

He whispered in my heart years ago to “do it afraid.”

And let me tell you, that’s been a game-changer.

I used to think that if I felt even a little bit of fear or anxiousness, that I was a failure.

That was just another lie from the devil.

Think about when God told Joshua to “fear not.”

He knew that fear would try to paralyze him, but He also knew that courage was the key to moving forward.

That’s what God showed me during that moment of fear—I could keep moving even if I was afraid.

So when fear comes knocking, pray first and magnify God.

Seek God’s strength until your heart and mind find victory over fear.

In that moment, you’re not just fighting your fear—you’re choosing to trust, to worship, and to acknowledge the goodness of God.

Worship Him for who He is and for the miracles He’s already working in your life.

That day, as I stepped into the unknown, still trembling, I made it through because I chose to follow His voice, not the voice of fear.

And you know what?

God didn’t leave me hanging.

He walked with me every step of the way, and each time I felt fear rise, I prayed, I focused on Him, and I kept moving.

Next time you’re faced with fear, don’t back down.

Be strong

Be courageous

Keep moving forward in God’s will—even if it means doing it afraid.

Focus on His voice and His promises that you will overcome because the Greater One lives in you, not the lies fear tries to whisper.

Keep following Him, and courage will rise up within you.

I promise, He’s right there with you, every step of the way.

If this resonates with you, here's a short prayer you can say today:

"Dear God, when fear comes creeping in like a storm cloud, remind me to focus on Your voice, not the thunder in my mind. Help me stand firm, even when my knees shake and my heart races. I choose to trust You, even if I have to move forward afraid, knowing You’re right there with me every step of the way. Strengthen my courage, and let Your peace drown out the fear. Amen."

God bless you!

TODAY'S QUESTIONS

1. How can Christians recognize when fear is trying to take control of our thoughts and actions, and what steps can we take to refocus on God's voice instead?

We’ll know fear is creeping in when we start feeling anxious, doubtful, or paralyzed by the “what ifs.” It's like when a fog rolls in. You can’t see clearly, and everything feels uncertain. But here's the thing: when that fog of fear hits, we need to stop, breathe, and focus on God’s truth. We can refocus by turning to His Word, praying for peace, and listening for His voice that always brings calm. It’s about shifting our gaze from the storm to the One who calms it.

2. In what ways can we support each other in overcoming fear, especially when we are called to step into the unknown or face challenges that seem overwhelming?

We’re all in this together, and sometimes it's hard to fight fear alone. When someone we love is struggling with fear, it’s our job to encourage them, to remind them of God’s faithfulness. That He is their strength when theirs is running low. Sometimes, just sitting with someone in their fear and praying with them is all they need to remember they’re not facing it alone. Together, we can walk through the unknown, hand in hand, trusting God to lead us both forward.

3. What specific promises in Scripture can Believers claim to remind ourselves that God is with us, even when fear feels overwhelming?

There are so many promises in God’s Word that we can hold onto like a lifeline when fear threatens to drown us. One that I love is Isaiah 41:10, where God says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.” That’s the kind of promise we can repeat to ourselves over and over, like a shield against fear. Psalm 23:4 also reminds us, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.” God’s presence is the ultimate weapon against fear.

4. How can we cultivate a habit of praying first and seeking God's peace before allowing fear to shape our decisions or reactions?

It’s easy to let fear take the wheel, especially when life throws a curveball. But we can make a habit of praying first, even in the small moments—when we wake up, when we feel uneasy, when we face a tough decision. It’s like checking in with God before we head out on a road trip. We need His directions to avoid getting lost. Prayer should be our first response, not our last resort, because when we seek His peace, it settles our hearts and helps us make choices rooted in trust, not fear.

5. When we’re afraid, what practical actions can Christians take to keep moving forward in God’s will, even if we have to do it afraid?

When fear knocks, we don’t need to stand still. We can keep moving forward even if we’re trembling, because God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. It’s like walking through a storm, just because the rain is falling doesn’t mean we stop. We can take small steps, one at a time, trusting that God will guide us. Whether it’s taking that job, having that conversation, or making that decision, we move forward, knowing God’s already ahead of us. Fear doesn’t have to be a stopping point. It can be a stepping stone if we keep our eyes on Him.
