God’s Plan Isn’t Revealed All at Once—It’s One Step at a Time

TODAY'S TEACHING
Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
—Genesis 12:1
Abram learned to trust God one step at a time, and his story begins in Genesis 12:1, a verse that says so much with so little.
It is such a great example of just how much God loves us trusting Him by faith (without faith, it's impossible to please Him—Hebrews 11:6).
Notice, God didn’t give him a complete roadmap.
Just one step (not two, three, four, etc).
And He told him to obey before He would reveal the next step.
That’s how God works... step by step.
Simple, but powerful.
I’ve had moments in my life where I thought I needed all the answers before I could move.
Ever been there?
You sit and wait for the whole picture to unfold.
But God doesn’t usually do that.
He just asks, “Will you trust me with the first step?”
I’ve learned that when I do trust Him with one step at a time, I end up exactly where I need to be.
No need to rush ahead.
I know how it feels to hesitate, waiting for the complete plan.
But if you're stuck, waiting for that perfect plan to fall into place, maybe today is the day to take a one step forward.
You don’t need to see the whole path, just trust God with the next step.
A few years ago, I felt a strong pull to step into something completely new, and I felt so nervous about it.
I kept waiting for some big sign, but God didn’t give me a blueprint.
He simply asked, “Will you take the first step?”
That was it.
And I’m so glad I did, because it opened doors I never imagined.
It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it.
When you take that first step, something incredible happens, you begin to feel the ground firm beneath you.
With every step, your faith grows stronger.
Just like Abram, who left everything familiar, God promises that even when we step out into the unknown, He’s with us.
And you know what?
When we obey, we are blessed.
Again, it’s simple, but it’s true.
God’s plan for you is good, and you can trust that it’s leading you to where you need to go.
You don’t have to know all the answers.
You don't need to have step two, three... and ten before you obey.
Just trust Him with the next step.
And when you do, you’ll see that He’ll lead you into blessings you couldn’t have dreamed of.
If this resonates with you, here's a short prayer you can say today:
"Dear God, I know You’re not asking me to see the whole picture, just the next step. Sometimes it feels like I’m standing at the edge, not knowing what’s ahead, but I trust that You’ll guide me one step at a time. Help me not to worry about the rest of the path, but to lean into Your timing and take that first step in faith. You’ve never failed me, and I believe You’re already working things out, even when I can’t see it. Amen."
God bless you!
Your brother in Christ,
Daniel

DEVOTIONAL QUESTIONS
1. How can we learn to trust God with just the first step, even when the rest of the journey isn’t clear to us?
Trusting God with just one step is tough because we want everything figured out in advance. But faith is about walking through the fog with just enough light to see the step ahead. It’s like walking into a dark room with only a flashlight. God’s not asking us to see everything, just to trust Him for what’s right in front of us. When we stop worrying about the whole path and focus on that first step, we discover the joy of walking with God one step at a time.
2. What are some common obstacles that prevent Christians from moving forward in faith, and how can we overcome them?
Fear is one of the biggest things that holds us back. It can paralyze us, make us second-guess every move, and stop us before we even start. But here’s the thing... God’s not calling us to be perfect. He’s calling us to be obedient, even when we feel afraid. Overcoming fear comes when we realize that, just like a child walking for the first time, we don’t have to do it alone. God’s right there, holding us up.
3. In what ways has God revealed His guidance one step at a time in our own lives, and how has it strengthened our faith?
For me, God’s guidance has always come like breadcrumbs leading me to the next thing. I’ve taken steps not always knowing where they’d lead, but looking back, I can see how each one was exactly what I needed. It’s like following a trail in the woods. You don’t see the end, but you trust the next marker will appear. And with every step, my trust in God grows, and I see more clearly how He works in my life.
4. How can Christians cultivate a heart of obedience, trusting that each small step leads us closer to God's bigger plan for our lives?
Obedience is a choice, and it starts by trusting that God’s plan is better than our own. It’s like piecing together a puzzle. We may only see a small part, but with each step, the picture becomes clearer. To cultivate a heart of obedience, we need to keep our focus on God, not on our doubts. When we trust Him with the little things, He’ll show us the big things in time.
5. What does it mean to take a step in faith, and how can Believers support one another in stepping out into God’s plan?
Taking a step in faith means moving forward even when we can’t see all the answers. It’s trusting that God knows the way, even when we don’t. But it’s not just about us. It's about lifting each other up as we all walk this journey. When we support each other, pray for each other, and walk together, we remind one another that God’s plan is always worth stepping into, no matter how uncertain it may seem.

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
—Isaiah 40:30-31
