How To Give The Devil a Nervous Breakdown (Do This Today)

Daily Effective Prayer Newsletter Issue 191.

TODAY'S TEACHING

Let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing. โ€”James 1:4

Todayโ€™s verse talks about being steadfast

To be steadfast is like standing in the eye of the storm, calm and unshaken, no matter whatโ€™s raging around you.

A steadfast believer?

They can drive the devil into a nervous breakdown, making him lose his grip every time.

When we grow spiritually, we stop reacting to every little thing the enemy throws our way.

Itโ€™s like the devilโ€™s throwing pebbles at a mountainโ€”it doesnโ€™t even flinch

We wonโ€™t get rattled, we wonโ€™t get scared, we wonโ€™t quit, and we sure wonโ€™t let him move us.

I remember a time when everything seemed to be falling apart.

It felt like I was standing in the middle of a storm, with waves crashing from every side.

Bills were piling up, relationships were strained, and my health took a sudden nosedive.

The enemy was attacking on every side.

I couldโ€™ve easily let fear take over, but I remembered what it meant to be steadfast in God.

Instead of letting the enemy play with my emotions, I dug my heels in and chose to trust God.

Did you catch that?

I made a decision to look to God and hold onto His promises.

Every time a new problem hit, I didnโ€™t react like I used to.

I didnโ€™t run around panicking or questioning why this was happening to me.

I stood still (Psalm 46:10).

It wasnโ€™t easy, but I made a choice to listen for Godโ€™s voice, even when everything around me was screaming louder

I clung to His promises, reminded myself that this wasnโ€™t the end, and kept my focus on the victory Heโ€™s already won for me through Jesus.

Slowly, things started to shift

Not overnight, but I noticed how I stopped being moved by the enemyโ€™s tactics.

Thatโ€™s when I realized: I wasnโ€™t just enduringโ€”I was frustrating the devil.

The more I refused to be rattled, the more peace I had, and the enemy couldnโ€™t stand it.

He was losing his grip, fast.

Eventually, those storms passed, and I came out stronger, with more faith than I had before.

Thatโ€™s what being steadfast doesโ€”it breaks the enemyโ€™s power and releases Godโ€™s power into your life.

So whatever youโ€™re facing, remember this: youโ€™ve got the power to stand your ground.

When you do, youโ€™ll give the devil a nervous breakdown.

Iโ€™ve been there, and I promise you, God is faithful through it all.

To be this unshakable, youโ€™ve got to know Godโ€”really know Him.

Youโ€™ve got to hear His voice, even when life feels like a whirlwind

And youโ€™ve got to remember the power youโ€™ve got in the Name of Jesus, a power that the devil canโ€™t stand up against.

No matter what youโ€™re facing today, remember this: itโ€™ll pass

Keep your eyes on the victory Godโ€™s already promised, not on the chaos the enemy is stirring up.

As you stay grounded, Godโ€™s power moves in your life, and youโ€™ll give the devil a breakdown he wonโ€™t forget.

If this resonates with you, here's a short prayer you can say today:

"Heavenly Father, I come to You today, standing firm in the face of every storm the enemy throws my way. I know Youโ€™ve given me the strength to be unshakable, like a tree deeply rooted by streams of living water, no matter how fierce the winds blow. I wonโ€™t let fear or frustration move me, because I trust in Your power to see me through. Thank You for making me steadfast, for giving me the ability to stand strong and give the devil a mental breakdown every time he tries to take me off course. Amen."

God bless you!

TODAY'S QUESTIONS

1. How can a believer develop the kind of steadfast faith that keeps them unshaken during spiritual attacks?

We develop steadfast faith by spending time with God regularly, like a tree growing strong roots by a river. Itโ€™s not just about reading the Bible or praying once in a whileโ€”itโ€™s about making it a lifestyle, something we do every day. When we immerse ourselves in His Word, it becomes our foundation, and when storms hit, weโ€™re not easily moved. Like training for a marathon, we get stronger through practice. The more we lean into God during the good times, the more unshakable weโ€™ll be when the enemy tries to knock us down.

2. What specific promises from Godโ€™s Word can Christians hold onto when the enemy tries to disrupt their peace?

There are so many promises in Godโ€™s Word that anchor us when life gets tough. One of my favorites is Isaiah 41:10, where God says, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God." When the enemy tries to disrupt our peace, we hold onto that promise like a life preserver in a storm. Another powerful one is Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." These verses remind us that weโ€™re not fighting aloneโ€”Godโ€™s power is backing us up, and the devilโ€™s got no chance against that (Jesus already whipped Him - Colossians 2:15).

3. In what ways can believers recognize and resist the devilโ€™s tactics without being moved by fear or doubt?

The enemy loves to hit us where weโ€™re weak, but when weโ€™re paying attention, we can recognize his tricks. Heโ€™ll try to stir up fear, anxiety, or frustrationโ€”anything to throw us off track. But when we feel those emotions creeping in, thatโ€™s a red flag. Instead of letting them take root, we can resist by immediately turning to God. Itโ€™s like shutting the door on a pesky salesman who keeps knocking. We donโ€™t even entertain what the enemyโ€™s selling. We resist with prayer, praise, and by declaring Godโ€™s truth over our lives.

4. How does trusting in Godโ€™s power and staying grounded in His presence give the enemy a nervous breakdown?

When we trust in Godโ€™s power, itโ€™s like putting up an impenetrable wall against the enemyโ€™s schemes. The devil has a nervous breakdown when we refuse to react to his nonsense. Every time we stay calm, grounded, and trust Godโ€™s got it under control, the enemyโ€™s plans fall apart. He wants us rattled and full of doubt, but when we stand firm in Godโ€™s presence, itโ€™s like watching him throw tantrums that go nowhere. The more we trust God, the more frustrated the enemy gets, because he knows heโ€™s losing.

5. What practical steps can Christians take to remain calm and rooted in faith, even when life feels like itโ€™s spinning out of control?

Staying calm in the chaos is all about preparation. First, weโ€™ve got to make time with God a priorityโ€”daily prayer and Bible study are like spiritual workouts that build our strength. Second, surround yourself with believers who encourage and support you, because weโ€™re not meant to fight this battle alone. And finally, when life feels like itโ€™s spinning out of control, take a step back, breathe, and remember that Godโ€™s still on the Throne. Keep your focus on Him, and youโ€™ll find peace, even in the craziest moments.

Then a cloud appeared and enveloped [Jesus and his disciples, Peter, James, and John], and a voice came from the cloud: "This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!"
