Why You’re Not Hearing God’s Voice and How to Fix It Fast

TODAY'S TEACHING
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. —John 21:25
God has so much He wants to reveal to us as His children.
As today's scripture says, there is so much more He could have told us about Jesus, that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.
The truth is, God speaks to us on a daily basis, but sometimes we miss what He says because we’re simply not listening.
I’ll never forget a time in my life when I felt completely lost, like I was walking through fog.
I was facing a big decision, and I just couldn’t hear God.
That’s when I realized that hearing from Him wasn’t just about waiting for some big moment.
It was about learning to listen every day.
I’ve learned that hearing from God starts with obedience, no matter how small.
It’s not always easy, but I can tell you from experience that every time I choose to obey, even in the small things, it sharpens my ability to hear Him more clearly.
I remember once, I was praying about whether to take a job opportunity.
The answer wasn’t immediate, but I obeyed a little prompting to spend time in prayer and reading the Word, and that’s when everything became clear.
Each act of obedience increases our sensitivity to God’s voice, like turning the dial on an old radio until the signal comes through loud and clear.
I’ve come to call this journey “living to learn.”
Life with God isn’t a one-time event—it’s an ongoing adventure where every day we learn to recognize His direction more as we walk with Him and obey His instructions.
One morning, I felt a tug in my heart to reach out to an old friend who I hadn’t spoken to in years.
Honestly, it didn’t make sense at first, but I followed through, and when I called them, they told me they had been praying for someone to help them with a challenge they were facing.
That moment reinforced for me that our walk with God is a continual learning experience, and we have to hear His voice to be led by His Holy Spirit.
God's Spirit is always ready to teach us something new, but we have to be willing to obey quickly.
I learned that lesson again one day while reading my Bible, something I’d done countless times before.
But this time, I approached it with a different mindset.
I asked, “God, show me something I haven’t seen before.”
And sure enough, He did.
There was a verse that I had read numerous times, but this time it jumped off the page in a new way, and it felt like God was speaking directly to my heart.
So don’t read the Bible out of obligation, or to check it off your list.
Approach it with a hunger to learn something new, to grow in your ability to be led by God's Spirit.
Each time we open the Word with a heart ready to listen, God is faithful to speak and to guide.
I’ve seen firsthand that when we approach Him with a desire to learn, He always delivers.
Let your prayer today be, “God, I want to know You more today than yesterday, to hear Your direction more clearly, and I want to obey You fully and quickly.”
I promise that as you do, you’ll see growth in your relationship with Him that you never expected.
Look at where you are now, how far you’ve come in your walk with Christ.
It’s not about where you still need to go, but how much you’ve already learned and grown in Your relationship with Your Heavenly Father.
Every step of your faith journey is valuable, and God is teaching you something new each day that He wants you to obey.
And the more you walk in obedience, the more clearly you will hear when He speaks to you.
If this resonates with you, here's a short prayer you can say today:
"Dear God, I’m here today, ready to listen. I know You’ve got so much to reveal to me, and I don’t want to miss a single thing. Open my heart and my ears to Your voice. Help me tune in and obey quickly, even when it’s hard. I trust that with each step of obedience, You’ll make Your path clearer, and I’ll grow deeper in knowing You. Amen."
God bless you!

Daniel

DEVOTIONAL QUESTIONS
1. How can we become more sensitive to God's voice and learn to recognize when He’s speaking to us in our daily lives?
We need to quiet the noise around us, both the external and the internal. Imagine standing in the middle of a crowded room trying to hear a whisper. It's nearly impossible unless we tune out the distractions. The same goes for hearing God. We need to set aside time for silence, reflection, and prayer, and train our hearts to listen. The more we practice tuning into His voice, the more familiar it becomes, like the sound of a loved one calling your name in a crowded space.
2. What steps can Christians take to ensure we are obedient to God’s instructions, even in the small things, so that we can hear Him more clearly?
Obedience is like building muscle. It’s something we grow in, not just a one-time event. We start by obeying in the small, everyday moments, like when we feel nudged to encourage someone or step out of our comfort zone. Every act of obedience, no matter how small, strengthens our ability to hear God. When we’re faithful in little things, God trusts us with more, and that’s when we begin to see His guidance more clearly. So, take that step, even when it feels uncomfortable. He’s guiding you with love.
3. How do we cultivate a heart of lifelong learning and open ourselves to hearing something new from God every day?
If we want to hear something new from God every day, we need to approach Him with a heart that’s always hungry. Think of it like a garden. If we don’t tend to it, the soil gets hard, and nothing will grow. But when we approach God with a teachable spirit, He can plant fresh seeds in our hearts. Whether it’s through the Bible, a sermon, or a quiet moment, God has something new to show us. We just need to be ready to receive it and open ourselves to His guidance, day in and day out.
4. In what ways can Believers practice active listening to God through prayer, Bible study, and our daily actions?
Active listening to God isn’t just about hearing. It’s about responding quickly. When we pray, we can listen with intention, waiting for His direction instead of just pouring out our requests. During Bible study, let’s not just read the words. Let’s let them sink in, reflect on them, and let God speak to us through those passages. And in our daily lives, let’s practice listening by paying attention to the Holy Spirit’s gentle nudges. Active listening is all about being present and responsive in every moment.
5. What obstacles might we face that prevent us from hearing God’s voice, and how can we overcome them to stay aligned with His will?
We’re all going to face obstacles. Whether it's busyness, distractions, or doubts that cloud our minds. When life feels overwhelming, it’s easy to let God’s voice get drowned out. The key is to recognize when these obstacles are creeping in and take steps to clear the way. We can set aside intentional time to be still, remove distractions, and let go of our own plans and expectations. In those moments, we need to trust that God is still speaking, and we’re never too far from His reach. By leaning into Him and choosing to make room for His voice, we stay aligned with His will.
