God Has a Word For You—His Voice is Closer Than You Think

TODAY'S TEACHING

But we have this precious treasure [the good news about salvation] in [unworthy] earthen vessels [of human frailty], so that the grandeur and surpassing greatness of the power will be [shown to be] from God [His sufficiency] and not from ourselves.
 —2 Corinthians 4:7

More than anything, I long to hear God’s voice clearly and recognize His presence with me every moment of every day.

I’m guessing that’s why you’re reading this newsletter issue too.

You want that closeness with Him, that deep, heart-to-heart connection

I can relate.

For many years, I knew Jesus as my Lord and Savior, but something was missing in my relationship with God.

I’d pray and pray, but it felt like I was always reaching out to Him and never quite getting there.

I remember a specific afternoon that changed everything.

I was sitting alone in my living room, just trying to focus on my prayers, but it felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere

I’d been talking to God, but I wasn’t hearing anything back.

At least, not in the way I expected

Frustrated, I finally asked Him, “God, why does it feel like I’m praying but still coming up empty?”

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting an answer.

But suddenly, I felt something stir in my heart

I heard it loud and clear: “Daniel, you’re looking on the outside when you should be looking on the inside.”

It was a wake-up call.

I had been searching, hoping to feel something from the outside (an emotional experience, a miraculous sign, a breakthrough), but all along, God had already made His home inside me.

This realization was a game changer

You see, God’s Word tells us that He lives inside us.

But for a long time, I struggled to really believe it.

We hear verses like this, but they don’t always sink in until we experience them for ourselves.

The verse for today says, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us” (2 Corinthians 4:7).

I had been looking for something I already had.

God’s presence, His voice, His love, was right within me all along.

That moment completely transformed my prayer life.

It wasn’t about trying harder to “reach” God anymore.

It wasn’t about praying louder or longer

I had spent so much time trying to get to Him, when, in fact, He was already right here

All I had to do was stop striving and start listening

As I began to shift my focus inward, I started hearing God’s voice in little ways I had never noticed before.

I began to recognize small thoughts, deep peace, gentle nudges.

It wasn’t dramatic, but it was real and personal, and it was exactly what I needed.

The truth is, God is within you, too.

You don’t have to chase Him or search for Him somewhere on the outside.

He’s with you every day, inside you.

He’s your Peace, your joy, your Strength, your Help, and your Power.

He wants to speak to you, but you have to start listening to your heart

I encourage you to stop reaching outward (if you are).

Look inside, and you’ll find that His voice has always been closer than you think.

Just like the afternoon that changed my prayer life, God is ready to speak to you right where you are today.

You don’t need to work harder to hear from Him.

Look within, and you’ll discover He’s been right there, waiting for you to recognize His presence.

If this resonates with you, here's a short prayer you can say today:

"Dear God, I know You’re always with me, even when I don’t feel You near. Help me stop looking outward for signs of Your presence and start listening for Your voice within. Teach me to recognize the treasure of Your Spirit that’s already alive in me, guiding me every step of the way. I don’t need to search for You anymore. You’re right here, and I want to hear You clearly. Amen."

God bless you!

DEVOTIONAL QUESTIONS

1. How can Christians cultivate a deeper awareness of God's presence within us, rather than searching for Him in external circumstances?

We often think we need to go looking for God, to search for His presence somewhere out there, but the truth is, He’s already right inside us. We just have to slow down and be still long enough to notice. It’s like trying to find your keys when they’re sitting in your pocket. You’re searching everywhere, but it’s already in the place you least expected. If we start looking within instead of around us, we’ll realize God has been here all along, just waiting for us to recognize His presence.

2. What steps can we take to actively listen for God’s voice in our hearts every day?

Listening for God takes practice. Like tuning a guitar, we need to adjust and get used to the sound of His voice. It’s not always in the big, dramatic moments, but in the quiet ones. If we make space for God every day (even just a few minutes of silence) we’re opening our hearts to hear Him. And don’t be discouraged by the silence. Sometimes, it’s in those quiet moments that God speaks the loudest. Trust that He’s there, and just keep listening. The more we tune in, the clearer His voice will become.

3. In what ways can we shift our focus from striving to “reach” God to recognizing that He’s already living within us?

We often think we need to do more or work harder to get close to God, but that’s not the case. He’s already here, inside of us. It’s not about striving to reach Him. It’s about recognizing He’s already made His home in our hearts. It’s like thinking you need to go to a faraway place to find a treasure when it’s actually been buried right in your backyard all along. So, stop reaching for something that’s already within you. God’s presence is never farther than a prayer away.

4. How can Christians apply the truth of God's constant presence to our daily struggles and challenges?

When we realize God is with us in every moment, it completely changes how we face our struggles. It’s like having a guide by your side on a tough trail. No matter how rough the path, you know you’re not walking alone. When challenges come, we can face them with confidence, knowing God is walking through them with us. It’s not about avoiding tough times, but knowing we’ve got the strength and peace to get through them because He’s with us every step of the way.

5. What are some practical ways a Christian can strengthen their relationship with God by looking inward for His guidance and peace?

Building a stronger relationship with God is about making Him a daily part of your life. It’s not about doing more or being perfect. It’s about taking moments to talk to Him, listen, and reflect on His Word. Think of it like nurturing a friendship. It’s not the grand gestures but the small, everyday interactions that keep it growing. Set aside time, even if it’s just five minutes, to pause and connect with God. When we create space for Him, He fills it with peace, guidance, and the assurance that we’re never alone.
