How To Let God’s Peace Be Your Umpire
TODAY'S TEACHING
Let the peace of Christ [the inner calm of one who walks daily with Him] be the controlling factor in your hearts [deciding and settling questions that arise]. To this peace indeed you were called as members in one body [of believers]. And be thankful [to God always]. - Colossians 3:15
When I first read today's verse, I was touched by it.
What a blessing that we are able to let God's peace in our hearts run our lives.
I aim to let peace show me what to do and not do every day and in every way.
If I don't have the peace to speak something from my heart in a conversation, I hold my tongue.
If I want to buy something and God's peace is missing, then I don't buy it.
If I am at a crossroads in my life and have to decide between two directions, I make every effort to locate God's peace so I know which road to take.
The Bible says that there are many voices in the world.
I've even heard some statistics say that every day we are hit with thousands of marketing messages from the moment we wake up till the time we go to bed.
This can all make it challenging to recognize God leading us.
So, when I'm trying to discern between God's voice and the other competing voices, I listen carefully to see which voice or message is wrapped in the peace of God.
I have discovered that diligently seeking peace whenever possible is of utmost importance.
When I didn't have peace and moved ahead anyway, I made some serious mistakes in my life.
So much so, that I never want to act without God's peace in my heart, ever.
Another translation of Colossians 3:15 says that the peace of God is like an umpire.
If there is no peace, then it's as if an umpire is saying "out" to that decision.
If there is peace, then he is saying "safe" to going in that direction.
We must seek to maintain a peaceful harmony in our minds and souls.
As we do, the peace of God, or lack thereof, will decide with finality all our questions.
We'll gain much more clarity about the decisions we must make in our lives.
We must learn to stop in our tracks when we feel a "check" in our hearts.
We should pause and pray when we sense an uncomfortable feeling rising from the inside.
On the other hand, when peace is present, we need to trust and obey.
God's peace lets us know whether or not we are on track.
Let peace have the final word in the decisions you make.
Decide today that God's peace is the umpire in your heart.
This takes practice, but slowly but surely, one day at a time, you'll get better and better at recognizing God's peace.
And you can trust that He will never lead you astray.
If this resonates with you, here's a short prayer you can say today:
"Heavenly Father, I humbly ask that You please help me to allow Your peace to act as the umpire in my heart when I am faced with decisions. May Your calming presence guide me and help me discern Your will in all that I do. Thank You for being my Source of peace and wisdom. Amen."
God bless you!

Prayer To Discern God's Peace and Will For You
Dear Father,
I come humbly before Your throne, seeking to better discern Your peace in my heart, to have a deep understanding of Your will for my life.
I surrender my desires and my own understanding, and I ask that You fill me with Your Holy Spirit.
I confess that, at times, I may have been led astray by my own emotions and the chaos of this world.
I may have allowed fear and doubt to cloud my judgment and obstruct Your peace.
Yet, I know that Your Word promises peace that surpasses all understanding, and I yearn to experience the fullness of that peace.
Holy Spirit, I invite You to dwell within me, to guide my thoughts and emotions.
Lord, illuminate the paths I should take and bring clarity to my discernment.
Open my eyes to recognize the still, small voice of Your peace amidst the noise of this world.
Help me to discern Your peace, which is different from the deceptive peace the world offers.
I surrender my plans, my desires, and my fears unto You.
I surrender my will to Yours, knowing that Your plans are perfect and Your ways are higher.
Strengthen my faith, Father, and help me to trust in Your divine timing.
Teach me to rely on Your peace as an anchor in the midst of life's storms.
I acknowledge my total dependence on You.
I cannot discern Your peace on my own, but I believe that through the power of Your Holy Spirit, I can experience true peace in my heart.
Grant me the patience to wait on You, to seek Your face diligently, and to trust fully in Your leading.
In the precious Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
