This Is a Great Privilege
TODAY'S TEACHING
Pray without ceasing. - 1 Thessalonians 5:17
One of the greatest privileges in our lives is being able to pray to God.
What an honor to be able to talk to and hear from the Creator of the universe.
Do you agree?
Prayer is powerful because it builds our relationship with God.
And it's not something we have to do or are forced to do.
No, it's something we can choose to do.
We get to do it.
Daily prayer is the way we collaborate with God.
We join our hearts with His and pray for His will to be done in our lives and the lives of others.
It's a way for us to speak and declare that His plans and purposes come to pass.
That His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
One way the privilege of praying rose in value in my heart is when I read about the process priests had to follow when dealing with God's presence in the Old Covenant.
It was very meticulous, and if it was not done right, they could die (Exodus 28:35, Leviticus 10).
And now, under the New Covenant, through Jesus, we can boldly step into the awesome presence of God through prayer any time we want to (Hebrews 4:16).
Praying daily allows us to spend time with God and open up and share our hearts with Him.
We can listen to hear what He says to us about what we shared with Him.
And He can share with us what rests on His heart.
What an honor.
We must grasp the magnitude of this privilege and not let it slip away carelessly.
We must understand the depth of our connection with the Almighty and the immense power that prayer holds.
Communicating with God is one of the best blessings we will ever receive here on earth.
But, let's remember to keep prayer simple.
Although prayer is one of the highest honors, we must not get lost in believing that it has to be complicated and complex.
One of the most powerful prayers I know is, "God, help me."
I do not believe nor have I been taught that talking to God and hearing His voice was ever meant to be cumbersome.
I believe that from the very beginning, prayer was to be easy and straightforward.
It is to be normal and something we do all day long, moment by moment.
Prayer is like breathing.
It is to be natural and done all throughout the day.
If this resonates with you, here's a short prayer you can say today:
"Dear God, thank You for the great privilege of prayer in my life. Grant me the wisdom to always seek Your guidance through prayer, that I may walk in Your ways. Help me to keep prayer simple and to talk to You as naturally as I breathe. May my prayers be a sweet aroma to You, bringing me closer to Your presence each day. Amen."
God bless you!

TODAY'S QUESTIONS
1. What biblical passages or teachings emphasize prayer as a privilege and honor?
Prayer is not just a duty but a privilege granted to us by God to communicate with Him. The Bible is filled with teachings that highlight prayer as an honor, such as in Philippians 4:6-7 where it says to not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. This passage emphasizes the privilege we have to bring our requests to the Lord in prayer and experience His peace that surpasses all understanding. Praise God!
2. How does recognizing prayer as a privilege and honor impact our attitude and approach to prayer?
Acknowledging prayer as a privilege and honor transforms our attitude and approach, infusing them with gratitude, reverence, and humility. Understanding the privilege of communing with the Creator of the universe fills us with awe and thankfulness, leading us to approach prayer with sincerity and faith. Recognizing prayer as an honor bestowed upon us by a loving Heavenly Father instills a sense of responsibility and earnestness in our prayers, motivating us to seek Him wholeheartedly and align our will with His divine purposes. This awareness shifts our focus from self-centered requests to God-centered adoration and surrender, deepening our relationship with Him and strengthening our faith.
3. In what ways does prayer deepen our relationship with God and affirm His sovereignty?
Prayer deepens our relationship with God by allowing us to communicate with Him directly, seeking His guidance, comfort, and presence in our lives. Through prayer, we acknowledge God's sovereignty over all things and submit our will to His divine plan. As we pour out our hearts to Him in prayer, we affirm His authority and trust in His wisdom, knowing that He hears our petitions and works all things for our good according to His perfect will. In this way, prayer becomes a powerful tool for drawing closer to God and surrendering to His sovereign authority in our lives.
4. How can we cultivate a sense of reverence and gratitude in our prayer life?
Gratitude in prayer is developed by acknowledging the goodness of God in our lives and recognizing His faithfulness and grace - even in the small things. Reverence is cultivated by approaching God with humility, awe, and respect, understanding His holiness and majesty. Practicing regular prayer, studying Scripture, and reflecting on God's blessings can help us maintain a grateful and reverent attitude in our conversations with Him.
5. What practices or disciplines can help us fully appreciate the privilege and honor of prayer in our daily lives?
Consistent prayer practices like daily quiet time, journaling prayers, and participating in prayer groups (join us on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X - formally Twitter) help us deepen our connection with God and understand the profound impact of communication with Him. Engaging in gratitude and praise during prayer also enables us to recognize the blessings and goodness of God in our lives, fostering a spirit of thankfulness and humility. Through these practices, we can cultivate a heart of prayer and truly grasp the significance of conversing with the Creator of the universe, our Heavenly Father.
