Generally, angelic beings are described as having human-like features. Their common appearance is that of having eyes and a face, with wings that allow them to fly.
There are some angels depicted in the Bible with more unusual characteristics such as having multiple wings and halos or fiery energy around their heads. Some are even said to have eyes all over their bodies.
The Book of Daniel mentions four angels who each had four faces and four wings, while Ezekiel depicts angels as having four legs with feet like those of a calf and hands like those of humans.
What do angels actually look like according to the Bible?
In the Old Testament, angels are portrayed as strong warriors with swords in hand that protect Godโs people from danger.

Angels play an important role in Christianity today, serving as a reminder of God's love for all people and His desire for us to live according to His Holy Word.
What are the 7 types of angels mentioned in the Bible?
The Bible mentions seven distinct types of angels, each with a specific purpose and task. These angels are the angels of the Lord, Cherubim, Seraphim, Archangels, Angels of Judgement, Guardian Angels, and Angels of Destruction.
Angels of the Lord are mentioned frequently throughout the Bible and are those who carry out God's commands directly to people.
They often appear in human or animal form to communicate messages from Heaven or perform divine acts on Earth. These angels serve as messengers between humans and God and while they can be found in both Old and New Testament scriptures, they are most commonly associated with the books of Isaiah and Daniel.
Cherubim angels are described as winged creatures with four faces โ that of a man, lion, eagle, and ox โ denoting their strength and power.
They served primarily as guardians in ancient times:
- Two were stationed at Eden after Adam was exiled
- Two were placed by God outside the gates of heaven
- Some guarded the Ark of the Covenant
- Others protected travellers on their journey to Jerusalem
Seraphim angels have six wings covered with eyes which represent knowledge and understanding; these mysterious creatures are responsible for praising God in Heaven day and night. They carry a flaming sword that symbolizes judgment from Heaven towards any sinful soul who enters its presence.
In Isaiah 6:2-3 it is written that seraphim angels call for holiness when praying before Godโs throne: "Holy holy holy is Lord Almighty; Heaven and earth are filled with Your glory".
Archangels serve as protectors against evil forces on Earth. Michael is described as an Archangel in Daniel 12:1 where he is noted for being one step below God Himself when it comes to power.
Gabriel is another archangel who was sent by God to deliver important news such as an announcement about John the Baptistโs birth to Zacharias (Luke 1:11-19).
Raphael appears in Tobit 3 & 5 where he helps Tobias complete his mission.
Angels of judgement appear several times throughout scripture where they bring forth divine justice against those deserving punishment due to their misdeeds (Exodus 12:12).
In Daniel 4:13-17 angels appear to Nebuchadnezzar who delivers a stern warning about impending judgment if one does not repent from their wrongdoings quickly enough.
Guardian angels play a significant role throughout Scripture where they provide protection from harm by watching over individuals during difficult times (Psalm 91:11-12).
According to Matthew 18:10 it is stated that each person has their own guardian angel assigned at birth who will remain with them for life unless removed by God himself due to disobedience or lack thereof faithfulness in Him (Matthew 18:10).
Finally, Angels of Destruction appear briefly in 2 Samuel 24 when David orders them sent forth to punish Israel for committing sin against him. This story serves as an example showing how serious consequences can occur when one strays away from righteousness without repentance beforehand (2 Samuel 24).
These seven types of angels mentioned within scripture all serve important roles within Biblical context providing readers with insight into different aspects of divine intervention on behalf of mankind throughout history up until today.
Although there may be other unmentioned types present within religious texts these seven types remain central representing significant lessons concerning obedience towards God's authority.
