The Firefighter's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage; Give me the strength to save some life, whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child before it's too late
Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling to give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor and protect their property.
And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life;
Please bless with your protecting hand my children and my wife.

Who is the saint for firefighters

There is no set, official Patron Saint of firefighters, however two Catholic saints associated with firefighting and bravery are often thought of in this context.

St Florian is the protector of firefighters as he was a Christian Roman soldier who bravely defended others from unjust treatments. He is said to have saved an entire Austrian town from burning down in 250 AD when he put out a massive flame using only one jug of water.

In the other corner, St Barbara - the daughter of a rich pagan - is viewed by many as another key saint for firefighting. Her story goes that her Roman father hired a tower to be built where she was kept isolated and imprisoned.

When he found out she converted to Christianity, and that she had three windows in her tower symbolising the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, he arrested her and tortured her until she died. As punishment for his cruelty, God struck him down by lightning - reminiscent of a firefighterโ€™s job.

What do you say to thank the fireman

In times of chaos and danger, they run towards the flames while others run away. They risk everything to keep us safe, protect our homes, and save lives. They are our unsung heroes, and we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be fully repaid.

So, what do you say to thank the fireman who just saved your loved one, your neighbours' homes or your property from going up in flames?

You express your deepest gratitude for their selflessness, dedication, and bravery. You acknowledge their sacrifices and recognize the immense value of their service to our community. You let them know how much they mean to us, and how much we appreciate their hard work and sacrifice.

You give them a heartfelt "thank you" and know that it's never enough.

You try to do your part by supporting fire safety and prevention measures, volunteering your time and resources, and advocating for fair compensation and benefits for our firefighters.

So, to all the firemen out there, we say "thank you" for being there for us when we need you the most.

We respect and admire you, and we promise to work alongside you to keep our community safe and thriving.
