Could Standing Still Be The Missing Key To Your Miracle?

TODAY'S TEACHING
And all Judah stood before the Lord, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
—2 Chronicles 20:13
Some days the bravest move you’ll ever make is to stop moving. In God’s economy, stillness isn’t passive. It’s faith with its work boots on.
As today's scripture reveals, Israel once stood silent before the Lord while trouble marched their way. No swords raised. No speeches. Just a holy halt, waiting on the only One who could turn the tide.
We’re wired to fix things with our hands and outrun fear with a lot of activity. Yet Heaven’s rhythm is different. When God speaks to you about your situation and says, “Be still,” obedience looks like anchoring your heart while the wind keeps howling.
Think of waiting like planting a flag in the middle of a storm. You’re saying, “Lord, I’ll hold this ground till You speak.” You're not lazy. You're brave and trusting God—no matter what.
Here’s a story that might help paint the picture even more. Nina sat in a hospital waiting room at 2 a.m., fists tight, everything inside her screaming, "Do something". She almost called everyone she knew, almost bargained with God, and almost stood up to argue with a nurse. Then the Bible verse she learned as a kid rose up within her heart, and she simply whispered, “I’ll wait on You.”
Ten minutes. Then forty. The storm in her chest began to quiet, not because the problem vanished, but because His presence settled her. When the doctor finally came out to talk with her, decisions were clear, strength was there, and panic had no seat at the table.
That’s what waiting does. It trades frantic for focused. It swaps dread for direction. It exchanges panic for peace.
“Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” isn’t poetry for greeting cards. It’s God's promise in Isaiah 40:31, and it serves as a source of strength for navigating tough battles. Strength can come while you’re parked, not just when you’re moving.
Standing still says, “God, You lead. I’ll follow.” It’s handing Him control when every reflex wants to just do something apart from Him. It’s laying down the urge to manage outcomes and picking up His peace instead.
In 2 Chronicles 20:13, Judah had every reason to swing first and ask questions later. But they stood their ground in quiet trust, and God did what only God can do. He delivered (hallelujah).
So while you wait, don’t waste the wait. Worship. Pray. Trust. Take today’s small step of faith with a calm heart. Let peace guard the hallway while you watch for the door God will open.
Faith in action doesn’t always look like motion. Sometimes it looks like a settled soul, eyes up, hands open, ready to move the second He speaks. And until He does, you’ll be still, and you’ll be strong.
If this resonates with you, here's a short prayer you can say today:
"Dear God, sometimes You ask me to stop running and just rest in Your presence. When everything in me wants to fight, fix, or flee, teach me to stand still and trust that You’re working even when I can’t see it. Help me anchor my heart in Your peace when the storm howls loudest. I know the miracle isn’t always in the movement. Sometimes it's in the waiting on You. Amen."
God bless you!

DEVOTIONAL QUESTIONS
1. Where are Christians grabbing control instead of being still?
We see it in the late-night scrolling, the extra email “just in case,” and the tight jaw that says we’re bracing again. We’ve all done it. Being still isn’t quitting. It’s us saying, “Lord, we’ll stop forcing it and listen.” When we set the phone down, breathe, and admit we’re not the Savior, our hearts stop sprinting. That’s trust with sleeves rolled up. Awkward sometimes, tough to do, but real.
2. What’s the difference between lazy waiting and faithful waiting?
Lazy waiting shrugs and leaves the dishes in the sink. Faithful waiting talks with God, does the next honest thing, and keeps our side of the street clean. We pray short prayers, we read a bit of Scripture, we show up where we’ve promised, even if feelings aren't there. We expect God to move without trying to stage the miracle. The body may rest, but the heart leans forward in faith. It’s quiet trust, not careless unbelief.
3. How does stillness set Believers up for the miracle we can’t make happen?
When we stop thrashing, we finally see what’s already in front of us. Ideas we kept missing start landing. A “no” becomes a clear “not this, try that,” and we can hear it. We quit auditioning as the hero and make space for God to be God. Then the right callback shows up, or the closed door stops being the only door. Our job is obedience, patience, and trust. His job is bringing His promises to pass. That order matters.
4. What helps us hold steady when everything in us wants to run?
We build a small habit we can actually keep. A two-minute prayer in the kitchen. One psalm before bed. Gratitude out loud in the car, even if it feels clunky. Text a friend, “Stand with us today?” Take a slow walk and hand God one worry at a time (sometimes we may need to double back and do it twice). None of it is fancy. But braided together, it holds when the day goes against us.
5. How will a Christian know it’s time to move after waiting?
Peace starts to overtake panic. The next step looks simple enough to do without drama. Scripture we’re reading lines up, and wise friends nod, not wince. God speaks in our hearts and tells us to take the next step forward. Timing that we couldn’t arrange on our best day falls into place. There’s courage, not dread. And when we move, we move together with Him. Not to prove we’re strong, but because He’s already walking that way and the ground finally feels solid under our feet. It takes practice, and the more we do this, the easier it gets to recognize when it's time to move after waiting.

SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK
Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
