God Says It’s Time For a Mini Spiritual Vacation

TODAY'S TEACHING
Repent (change your mind and purpose); turn around and return [to God], that your sins may be erased (blotted out, wiped clean), that times if refreshing... may come from the presence of the Lord.
—Acts 3:19
Most of us know what it feels like to be physically tired. We drag ourselves through the day, grab another cup of coffee, promise ourselves we'll get more sleep tonight, and keep moving. What many Christians don't realize is that the soul gets tired too. Not sleepy. Worn thin.
A few years ago, I met a man who loved God deeply but was exhausted all the time. He wasn't doing anything sinful. He was serving at church, helping family members, volunteering when people asked, answering every text message, saying yes to nearly every request that came his way. One afternoon he admitted that he couldn't remember the last time he sat quietly with God without multitasking. That struck me.
He wasn't running from God. He was simply running.
The funny thing is that many of us do the same thing. We rush through our mornings, glance at a Bible verse on our phone, whisper a quick prayer while backing out of the driveway, and then wonder why we feel spiritually dehydrated by lunchtime. Our schedules get so packed that the Lord receives whatever scraps of attention happen to be left over.
Meanwhile, the very thing we're looking for is already available.
God's presence has a way of refreshing us that nothing else can. You can't buy it. You can't schedule enough entertainment to replace it. You can't scroll long enough to find it. Sometimes I've sat down to spend a few minutes with the Lord carrying frustration, irritation, and a mind that felt like fifty browser tabs were open at once. Twenty minutes later, nothing around me had changed, but something inside me had.
It like the wind in that it wasn't visible. But the effects of that time with the Lord were.
Jesus understood this better than anyone. Again and again in Scripture, we find Him stepping away from crowds, responsibilities, demands, and expectations to spend time alone with His Father. The people around Him always needed something. There was always another miracle to perform, another conversation to have, another place to go. Yet He intentionally withdrew because fellowship with the Father wasn't optional. It was necessary.
I was thinking about that recently while staring at a computer screen after a particularly busy day. My inbox was full. My phone kept lighting up. There was a list beside me with unfinished tasks that seemed to multiply every time I crossed something off. I remember leaning back in my chair and realizing I had spent hours working for God but very little time simply being with Him.
That's a dangerous place to live.
Not because God is angry. Because we're trying to function without the refreshment He freely offers.
Acts 3:19 speaks about "times of refreshing" coming from the presence of the Lord. That's not just a nice religious phrase. It's a reality. There are moments when we step into God's presence and He strengthens parts of us we didn't even realize were exhausted.
Sometimes we imagine that spending time with God requires an entire morning, a quiet cabin in the woods, or a perfectly organized schedule. Most of us don't live there. Real life is noisy. Kids need attention. Phones ring. Deadlines don't disappear.
Still, a mini spiritual vacation is possible.
Maybe it's three minutes in your car before walking into work. Maybe it's stepping outside for a moment and simply thanking God for His faithfulness. Maybe it's sitting quietly on the edge of your bed before everyone else wakes up and saying, "Jesus, I need You today."
Simple. Powerful. Life-giving.
The Lord doesn't ask us to carry every burden by ourselves. He invites us to come to Him. To pause. To breathe. To remember that we're not machines designed to run endlessly without rest. We were created for relationship.
And here's something worth remembering. There will always be another task on the list. Someone will always want your attention. Another responsibility will eventually appear. If we wait until life becomes less busy before spending time with God, we'll probably wait forever.
The invitation is now. Not when things calm down. Not after the schedule clears. Now.
So if your heart feels tired today, if your mind has been racing and your soul feels stretched thin, take a mini spiritual vacation. Step away for a few moments and spend time with the One who loves you most. You may not hear thunder. You may not see fireworks. But don't underestimate what happens when an ordinary believer spends a few quiet minutes in the presence of an extraordinary God.
The Lord is closer than you think. His refreshment is available right now. And as you make room for Him, you'll discover that what you've been searching for isn't found in doing more... it's found in drawing near to the One who has been waiting for you all along.
If this resonates with you, here's a short prayer you can say today:
"Dear God, I've been carrying things I wasn't meant to carry, and honestly some of them aren't even big things, just a hundred little things piled on top of each other until my mind feels crowded. Help me slow down enough to notice You again, because sometimes I move so fast I don't realize how thirsty my soul has become. Thank You for never being in a hurry when I come to You, even when I've spent days distracted and scattered. I need Your presence more than another solution, more than another plan, more than another productive day. Amen."
God bless you!

DEVOTIONAL QUESTIONS
1. Why do Christians often neglect spending time with God when we need Him most?
Usually because we're convinced we don't have time. The strange thing is that the busier life gets, the more we need God's strength, yet that's often when prayer gets pushed aside. We've all been there. We start treating time with God like an optional extra instead of the source of our spiritual oxygen. Eventually we discover that running nonstop doesn't make us stronger. It just makes us tired.
2. What does spiritual refreshment actually look like?
It doesn't always look dramatic. Sometimes it's simply feeling less anxious after prayer than before. Sometimes it's receiving peace in the middle of a situation that hasn't changed. We've all experienced moments where nothing around us improved, yet something inside us became steadier. That's often how God refreshes His people.
3. Why did Jesus regularly withdraw to spend time with the Father?
Because even Jesus valued communion with the Father above constant activity. That's worth thinking about. If the Son of God intentionally stepped away from demands and expectations to pray, how much more do we need those moments? We often admire Jesus' ministry while overlooking His habit of retreating to pray. The two were connected.
4. How can a Christian create spiritual pauses during busy days?
We don't always need an hour. Sometimes we need intentional minutes. We can talk to God while sitting in a parking lot, walking through a hallway, folding laundry, or waiting for an appointment. Small moments add up. A few sincere minutes with God can redirect the entire atmosphere of a day.
5. How do Believers know when our soul needs refreshment?
Usually the warning signs show up before we notice them. We become irritable, impatient, emotionally drained, and easily frustrated. Little problems suddenly feel enormous. We've all had days like that. Often what we need isn't more effort but more time in God's presence.
